Eastern country with Western influences, Lithuania has it

Hello dear friends

We are still in Lithuania and it has such a great culture. We can really experience this while we are traveling through Lithuania. The country is situated on a very eastern point of Europe but you can feel some influences of the Western culture. This isn’t strange if you know that during the Renaissance and on to later epochs, the culture of West-Europe had the greatest influence in Lithuania. Now we can really say that some European states enriched the Lithuanian culture and that they encouraged the development of their nowadays modern culture. They made the country as it is today.

The roots of their culture lies back to the multicultural legacy of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This was during the 14th till the 18th century. In this time era they had a lot of influences from just outside Lithuania. There were a lot of outstanding personalities who each had an influence on its culture. They lived in the territory of the present-day Poland, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

After surviving all these different kinds of influences by migrant artists, the Lithuanians protected there true identity of their traditional culture.

The history of professional Lithuanian art and music started in 1875 by MikalojusKonstantinas. He was a really talented artist that combined romanticism with symbolism in his creations. After Lithuania became independent as a state, literature, arts, theatre and music flourished. During some dramatic events in the 20th century some scientist, actors and author had to leave their country and immigrate to countries nearby. Therefore a lot of creations by emigrant writers became culture heritage of Lithuania.

We heard some music of MikalojusKonstantinas and we enjoyed it. It is very different from the music of today but that is normal. We can definitely appreciate such music but not for too long.

Our next stop is Finland, let’s see what this country holds for us.
Bye and feel free to leave a comment.
